Definition 

The drilling ball is your most effective tool for mining in the universe. Every envelope you have contains a drilling ball, and so more spare envelopes greatly increases your ability to mine trickier sectors. The ball is fired into the rocks repeatedly to drill its way through various types of brick. The ball also comes equipped with the ability to destroy mineral bricks whilst keeping the actual minerals intact. During your mining adventure you will find various upgrades for your drilling ball, increasing it's drilling capacity in different ways.

 

 

Ball Types

This is what every prisoner is given to start off with - it has the most basic of functions allowing it to drill regular bricks and harvest minerals

 

Awarded to a prisoner for completing the mission Drilling License. This ball can now weaken ferrous conglomerates, eventually thinning them to a stage where they can be fully drilled.

 

Awarded to a prisoner for completing the mission Drilling Ball: OX-Soldier. Found on Moltear, this ball has the power to destroy parasite molecules which would otherwise obstruct mining attempts.

 

Awarded to a prisoner for completing the mission Drilling Ball: OX-Delta. The latest ball officially released by the ESCorp, this ball has a drilling strength of 2, double the drilling power of the previous drilling balls, allowing it to break ferrous congolmerates much faster (similar to as if you had picked up an 'F' Powerup with a less advanced ball).

 

Awarded to a FURI member for completing the mission Unknown Prototype. A ball that is still undergoing tests by the ESCorp, this can be illegally obtained by FURI members only. The ball is able to negate the recoiling effect it would normally experience on contact with bricks, allowing it to hit up to 3 more times (for a total of 4) before bouncing against bricks again. It also has a drilling strength of 3, one more than the OX-Delta.
