Molecules

What are molecules?
Molecules are released by molecule bricks, and are (in effect) a moving obstacle. They can be found all around in space, although are most frequent the further away from the origin you are. Planets are usually home to quite a few molecules - Moltear and Spignysos being examples of this.
Molecules usually hinder your process, as many have the same effect as a negative powerup, although there is one that is thought by players to be very helpful.
Types of molecules
There are 7 different types of molecule, each with their own effect towards the game:

Description |

Acceleration |
These molecules speed up your ball when touched (i.e. same effect as a [Z] powerup). |
Boost |
These nasty molecules have the same effect as a [B] powerup on the conglomerates or normal bricks they touch (so more hits are required to break them). |
Creation |
These molecules create a trail of bricks to be destroyed after it. This can be very nasty, so make sure to destroy them quickly (if possible). |
Destruction |
These are by far the best molecules in the game. They work like a MAS-Z missile; when one of these molecules hits a brick, it will destroy it as well as any bricks in the eight surrounding spaces. |
Flash |
These can be quite annoying in some levels, as they blind the screen for a very short period of time, but you can still easily lose track of where the ball is going and, if you are not careful, it may cost you a life. However, the sunglasses item partially removes this blinding effect. |
Repulsion |
These molecules repel any drilling balls away from the molecules themselves, therefore making them hard to destroy. Also, you need to keep a close eye on the ball, as its change in direction can be quite unpredictable. |
Reverting |
These molecules change your ball back into its original state (so any effects such as flame, volt, etc. are cancelled). |
Molecules (when hit) also act as bricks in that they change the direction of your ball, as well as any other effects it might induce.
Molecules can only be destroyed by missiles, javelins, and a drilling ball with at least the strength of the OX-Soldier. There are also some powerups that can destroy the molecules, such as [L]. [T] can also be used to convert the bricks so that no molecules are released.

Parasites are completely different to molecules and can be found listed in the brick types page

The asphalt ball will also destroy parasites.

It's implied that the OX-Soldier ball and any ball more advanced will be able to destroy them, but I suppose it is worth noting.
