Alphabounce Curiosities

by alexburlton

This is a page dedicated to little curiosities that hardly matter to the game, but are useful to know the answers to anyway. If you have any questions that seem similar to these, you should ask them in the alphabounce forums and maybe they'll get added here! So without further ado, I introduce... the alphabounce curiosities!:

Q. What's the maximum number of balls I can have on my screen at once?

A. The answer to this is a complex one, as it seems that through conventional gameplay the ball count cannot exceed 18. That is, with the use of [M] powerups, with 10 balls on the screen the number would become 18 and fix there. However, it has also been found that the [N] and [R] powerups do not conform to this rule, and with the use of a special glitch using the regeneration powerup NPFan was able to produce this screenshot:

Now imagine trying to catch all of those!

Q. Is there a lower limit to where bricks can be in levels?

A. Yes, there is. This screenshot shows a steel brick at the absolute lowest it can be:

However, it's unlikely that you'll come across something like this - bricks would only be this low in a user-created level or if you put them there yourself in gameplay! (e.g. with a Factory Brick).

Q. Is there an outer limit to the alphabounce universe?

A. There is no known limit in any of the four directions to the alphabounce map. It has been supposed that perhaps new levels are randomly generated when a player reaches a sector that does not exist yet, but this has not been confirmed. It is also possible that there is a limit but nobody has reached it yet, however a recent project named "Road 666" conducted by player Lwxtz2004 explored as far as [-16835][-10101]! At this point he decided to turn around, however his project proved that the alphabounce universe is vast.

Another AlphaBounce player, OliviaDunham, also explores the AlphaBounce universe. She's going to West from the origin point. As of August 18th 2010, she's at [-23400][0]. OliviaDunham is a FURI member, so she won't be able to backtrack with the Lithium Retrofuser.

It means you have the zonkerian medallion which speeds up its movement.

Do you want to add another oddity? The use of halo on an asphalt ball seems to cause the halo ball to go to the top (normal), but rather than hitting balls from the top, it drifts down thru the balls changing direction periodically. It behaves normally (for a halo ball) after hitting the envelope for the second time. First hit sets it into halo mode.
